Co-Op members play a crucial role in the success of our school. In the classroom you are an extra set of ears, eyes and hands for the teachers; a provider of nourishing snacks; a reader in the cozy corner; an applier of Band-aids; an observer of child behavior. In general, you will not be expected to lead the class, although you may be asked to supervise hand washing, spot the monkey bars, or read a story to the group. Always feel free to bring your special talents into the classroom—a science project, cooking activity, musical instrument, art project, etc. We ask that you check with your child’s teacher a few days before you plan to bring in, or do, something so they can work it into the curriculum.
Once you have separated from your child, check with the teacher to make sure your child is ready for you to work in the classroom. You are usually asked to be fully separated for two weeks before taking on a workday (although you may be asked to bring snack before that point). During the two weeks between separation and working, please schedule a time with your Buddy Family to give you a detailed tour of the school and to go over what will be expected of you in the classroom.
Number of Classroom Workdays Required Each family is required to work a minimum of 2 times per month and 3 times, if necessary. (Per child).
At the discretion of the President and the Educational Director a member family may be granted either a) a temporary leave of absence, where the child is unable to attend school, or b) temporary non-participatory status, where the child continues to attend school. In either case, at the discretion of the President and Educational Director, a member may be excused from classroom workdays only. The above may be granted due to the member’s pregnancy and childbirth (which shall ordinarily be granted for a period of eight weeks); extended ill-health of the child or in the family; extended travel with the child; or other extenuating circumstance.
See school handbook for details on parent workday.
